Thanks, Todd!

Well, the inevitable happened, because, well, it was inevitable.  Latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows that Romney is now trailing Obama by a point in the key state of Missouri.  See the story here.

I predicted this a few days ago right here.  Not only is this nincompoop going to cost the Republicans a totally winnable Senate seat, but he may cost Romney a state that was long ago considered a lock for him.  Recall that in 2008's Obama rout, McCain actually won the state by a hair.

There's not much more Republicans can do about Todd Akin.  He is a small, selfish, clueless, ignorant man with the apparent I.Q. of a petri dish.  But one thing that Republicans must do is something I wrote about here.

Whenever any Republican is being interviewed about Akin, it is imperative that the first words out of their mouth include the fact that Akin only got the nomination because his Democratic opponent financed his campaign.  Remind the voters that Akin won what was an essentially a three-person race with only 36% of the vote.  Remind them that 60% of the voters wanted someone else, but since the other two candidates were both good, they split the vote evenly and Airhead Akin snuck in.  Remind them that McCaskill was so desperate to have a week opponent that she contributed more money to his campaign then Akin was able to collect on his own.  And remind them that many Democrats, wanting to help McCaskill get another term, voted in the Republican primary for Akin.

Not only should every Republican recite these facts when asked about Akin, but if he doesn't drop out soon, the RNC should start running ads saying this.  First in Missouri, then nationwide as the negative impact of this man's cluelessness and selfishness grows.

It must be done.

Larry Elder Wrote a Dumb Column

I can't remember the last time it happened, it's so rare.

But today Larry Elder wrote a very dumb column.  You can find Larry's brain fart here.

Larry Elder is the (normally) brilliant L.A.-area radio talk show host who is a Black libertarian/conservative.  I've been listening to him and reading his columns for years.  I have all of his books; they're all excellent and well worth reading.

But today, I have to ask the question he asks his dumb callers.  "Is this thing on?"

In the first three paragraphs, here's where Larry's brain has taken an unexpected leave of absence:

Which is worse, Rep. Todd Akin's, R-Mo., ignorance about human anatomy -- or the way Republicans jump, run and hide when the Democrat-media complex decides they should?
Akin is the Republican candidate for a crucial Senate seat in Missouri. In an interview, he said that he believed that pregnancy following an act of rape is "really rare -- if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down."
Incredibly dumb. The married father of six, including two daughters, apologized the next day and then recorded an ad apologizing yet again. That, at the very least, should have satisfied his Republican supporters. But, no.

There's so many things wrong with Larry's analysis, I hardly know where to begin.

First of all, Republicans didn't run jump or hide when the Democrat-media complex decided they should.  Not this time.  The condemnations from the Republican side were immediate and universal.  They didn't wait for the media to tell them to condemn the idiotic comments, they jumped in front of the story to condemn, as well they should have.

They saw what apparently Elder misses.  Akin's comments are so magnificently stupid they immediately, and I mean immediately, and for all time, disqualify him from being a United States Senator.  In fact, he isn't even qualified to be a dog catcher in a two-bit town that doesn't have any dogs.

Duh.

After saying something so moronic, the idea of Senator doesn't pass the smell test. Pure and simple.  I honestly don't know if Akin is simply the dumbest man alive, of if he time-traveled here from the 13th Century, but it doesn't matter.  Every time I see him, I have to wonder why he isn't naked.  Because he is clearly too stupid to know how to dress himself.

Of course, the Dems were only too eager to fit Akin's gross lunacy into their totally fictitious "war on women" meme.  It plays into it well, and as Ann Coulter pointed out, they finally have something with Akin's comments that could stick.

Elder then says that his apology should be enough, at least for his Republican supporters.

No, Larry, not even close.  First of all, an apology doesn't change the fact that he's a moron, and unqualified for elective office.

But also, his apology was totally inadequate and proves how truly clueless he is. Essentially, he said he "got a word out of place" as if that was the only problem. Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News Channel it's as if Akin he thinks his only problem is that he made a grammatical error.

Of course, using the word "legitimate" before the word "rape" is a big problem.  But if that's all he had done, he could have possibly survived this.  Well, an eloquent speaker could talk his way out of it, anyway.  Unfortunately for Akin, the words :"eloquent" and "Todd Akin" have never belonged in the same sentence, paragraph, or, for that matter, planet.

But what he said was so much more than just putting the word "legitimate" out of place. As I have already stated, what he said shows either gross stupidity, or perhaps is indicative of something even worse.  Maybe he has just totally lost touch with reality.

Either way, no independent will vote for him, no matter how out of step with her constituents the incumbent is.  And a lot of Republicans will either skip over that race when they vote, or perhaps even vote for McCaskill to show their disgust with Akin's absurd comments.

Sometimes, a person says or does something so unforgivable, you can't be forgiven for it, and this is one of those times.

It is very disappointing that the normally brilliant Larry Elder has totally missed the boat on this.  I sincerely hope that Larry remembers to put his brain back in his head before writing his next column.  I look forward to it.

Claire McCaskill Opposes Abortion for Rape Victims, Thinks "Legitimate Rape" is An Acceptable Phrase

And also thinks that a woman who is raped--if it is a "legitimate rape--can shut her body down so she can't get pregnant.

What?

Isn't Claire McCaskill a typical knee-jerk liberal who wants to see as many abortions as possible?  And how can she possibly think the phrase "legitimate rape" is acceptable?

Well, it's easy.

It seems that Claire McCaskill helped get the mentally defective Todd Akin nominated as her opponent in the Missouri Senate race.  See the link here, among others.  Key paragraph:

McCaskill, of course, wants Akin right where he is, a wounded challenger who can be beaten in November. In fact, McCaskill invested in helping Akin win the GOP primary earlier this month, spending $2 million on ads describing Akin as “too conservative.” She got her wish, as Akin won in a three-way race with 36 percent of the vote.

Yes, Senator McCaskill, one of President Obama's most loyal supporters, used critical campaign funds that could have been used in her fall general election campaign to prop up the candidacy of one Todd Akin, a Republican.  She did this because she realized that Akin was the easiest Republican to beat.  She knew that Akin was a walking time bomb, and it would only be a matter of time before he said something irredeemably offensive or stupid (or both).

That $2 million no doubt help get Akin the nomination.  In a nine person field with only three serious contenders, all Akin was needed was 36%  of the vote to get the nomination.  The other two major contenders got around 30% each.

Not only did the money from McCaskill help, but so did the fact that Missouri has an open primary system.  Anyone registered to vote, regardless of party affiliation, can vote in the party primary of their choice.  So no doubt many Democrats, trying to help McCaskill out, voted for Akin.

Well, that's sleazy politics, to be sure, but it's legal.  But since McCaskill supported Akin and helped him win, she has to take responsibility for her actions.  So while we all condemn Akin's moronic statement about rape victims not getting pregnant, let's be sure to condemn McCaskill for the very same thing.

So, Senator McCaskill, since you wanted Akin to get the nomination so badly that you donated a whopping $2 million to his cause, we now have the ability to hang his ignorant and offensive comments around your head too, as well as his.  Seems only fair.

So remember, Missourians, if you vote for McCaskill, you're not only voting for someone who supports Obamacare, but for someone who supports banning abortions for victims of rape, and who, apparently, believes that if a woman is "legitimately" raped, her body will shut down so she doesn't get pregnant.
